Sharing food is a universal activity that fosters dialogue and friendship, so our first project was an all-inclusive community potluck: Come Sit at Our Table. Since we were inviting everyone in Tukwila, we figured we'd try to break the world record for the largest potluck ever.

With the blessing of the City of Tukwila, we closed the northbound lanes of Tukwila International Boulevard to traffic for an afternoon in August 2016. The event featured food, dance, musical performances, and a street soccer tournament organized by the Highline College Sports Outreach Program.

More than 1,500 people attended. We're not sure if that constitutes a record, but it was a lot of fun and apparently newsworthy. Both The Seattle Times ("Tukwila eats way to record") and KING 5 News ("Potluck highlights Tukwila Diversity") covered the event. Volunteers and participants took tons of photos and video footage, much of which you can still find on the event's Facebook page.
